Overview¶
Windows logs various events into its event logs. The event logs can be viewed with the eventvwr.exe
tool which is supplied with Windows.
To start eventvwr.exe
, click the taskbar's Start button, then click Run (or simply press Windows+R). Either of these will pop up a dialog: just type in eventvwr
and click OK.
(Some versions of Windows — e.g., Windows Vista — may pop up a security dialog to check that you really want to run the program.) Once the event viewer has started is will look similar to this:
In the above screenshot some manifest-related entries can be seen as well as the details of the selected entry.
The "Application" and "System" sections are typically the interesting ones. Here are a few screenshots from Windows XP:
